Hey all!
Cactusclicker will become our most comprehensive mode at the opening of the server. Although we are currently in the finalization phase of the network, the work on Cactusclicker will continue until the release, as we want to expand it constantly. However, in the following lines, as well as in 2 other blogposts, we would like to talk about the newest addition to the mode – the dungeon system.
It is important to mention that the system is currently still in the concept stage, so fundamental changes can be made to the concept at any time. We will try to have the dungeon system ready by the time the network opens. Also, we would love to hear your opinions and ideas about the system!
The Idea
Our goal with Cactusclicker is to create a clicker game whose gameplay loop is exciting and versatile. We want you as a player to be motivated for a long time, as there are enough goals to help you build your cactus empire. The dungeon system is a perfect addition to the mode to achieve this goal.
You’re probably thinking, “Okay, that sounds all well and good, but what’s the point of the dungeons, and won’t it get monotonous over time?”. We’d like to answer that with a resounding “No!”. In the many crypts of the dungeon, you will be able to find powerful equipment and by increasing your dungeon level you will be able to unlock more rooms, rarity levels for equipment and abilities.
Another important factor to keep the system interesting for you is that all dungeons are randomly generated. This makes use of a large pool of modules that bring different functions and secrets, so no run will be like the last!
The 3 Biomes
Part of your tasks as a successful cactus business owner is to leave your factory. There you will encounter 3 unique biomes that will bring you a variety of resources.
- The Circle of Life
- The Heart of the Mountain
- The Dark Deep
Some parts of the biomes will still be locked at the beginning but can be unlocked by leveling up the area. For example, after unlocking, you can collect oak wood in the Circle of Life. By collecting it, the biome will gain experience points and will reach a new biome tier after some time. This opens a gateway to a new section where jungle trees also grow.
Keystones
In the middle of the Circle of Life is a mystical portal that can be activated by a keystone to take you to a randomly generated dungeon. These keystones can be crafted at the Arcanmacs and require resources from the 3 biomes of Cactusclicker to craft.
Each time a keystone is made, its cost will increase, which will not allow infinite runs per day. However, this price increase is reset to the original price once per day and the grind can start all over again.
Modifiers
Modifiers allow you to customize your keystones and have an impact on your experience in the dungeons. Of course, since modifiers increase the difficulty, you’ll get something in return. You’ll enjoy more and better loot, as well as more experience points for successfully completing a run.
In order to be able to craft these modifiers at all, you have to find the building instructions for the respective mod in the factory and surroundings beforehand.
The following modifiers will be available at the beginning:
- Massive – The dungeon is even larger, but contains more crates and loot.
- Horde – The number of enemies is increased. Enemies are more likely to drop loot, however.
- Empowered – Enemies are stronger but more likely to drop more powerful loot.
- Powerful – The boss is stronger but is guaranteed to drop a powerful item.
- Time Spinner – Dungeon completion time is reduced by X seconds, but the reward is increased.
Besides, you’ll have the possibility to boost modifiers and thereby improve your loot.
Conclusion
As you can probably tell, you’ll have a large number of options to customize your game experience in our dungeon system. Besides the modifiers, other things will also influence the difficulty level, about which we would like to write next week.
It’s really important to us to get feedback and incorporate good ideas from the community. So feel free to write us what you think the perfect dungeon system would look like and what elements it needs. We are looking forward to your comments!
